We asked Alasdair to tell us the story of his  racing DH, and I bit about the struggle he’s been through to be a top racer. Al is a man of few words and a really positive guy, so he didn’t have a lot to say, but what he said was very insightful. Here are his words.

I’ve been in love with bikes since I was a child. When I got into downhill mountain bike racing it was an unreal feeling. I became addicted to the sport!

The Worlds has come and gone, and we had great fun. Alasdair raced like a champ and even got onto PinkBike. Conrad worked for the New Zealand federation team and met some great new friends. Other than all the racing and fun, it was also great to be part of the atmosphere when Greg Minnaar won his second WC title in a row, and on home soil.

Grab a cup of your favourite hot beverage and enjoy the read.

A patriotic day indeed.

It’s been a long road, for Alasdair Fey, to get to the 2013 World Champs in Pietermaritzburg South Africa. The past few years haven’t  been easy for the young athlete, but with a bit of help from his friends, he’s made it. Alasdair qualified in the “A” team to represent South Africa later this month, and we asked him about his journey.

WOW! It’s been a seriously long time since I wrote a blog post and so much has happened. Sorry for the lack of posts, but things have been crazy. I got retrenched, have been starting new things and life has been pretty hectic.

First the job thing: Velo Life and I just didn’t seem to see eye to eye, so when it came time to tighten the belt there, they chose to let me go. I am not entirely happy, but not to un-happy either. I needed to change things and this it just the push I needed to get out and do things on my on. And to focus on Team Sputnik Corporation. So all in all its a good thing.

We had a KZN provincial at Cascades Bike Park, Pietermaritzburg on the 7th of June. The track was “Super Awesome”. It  ran along some an old National course from years back, as well as incorporating some of the more technical bits of the World Champs cross country course. Read More →

Another National has come and gone. The Gauteng round of the National Cup Series was no easy feat for them that aren’t used to the dry and dusty High Felt conditions. Alasdair

went up and represented for Team Sputnik Corp and hooked a podium to boot.

What a great view.

The DH season has now well and truly got underway. After a bit of a bumpy ride from a logistics point of view, Alasdair got down to Cape Town on Thursday and was collected from the airport by Cycles Africa’s Duncan Ngema and taken back to their offices, were his bike was waiting certacy of Omnico. A huge thank you has to go to Rob and his team from Cycles Africa for all their help and support, and to Vincent at Omnico for helping get Al’s bike to CT. You guys rock. Read More →

So 2013 is now well underway and the year’s race season has begun. The first weekend of February had a full calendar with an invitational race in Cape Town and the first round of the KZN mountain bike cup, both taking place. Which to do?
