The weekend of the 13 and 14 April 2013 was another great weekend of racing for Team Sputnik Corporation. The sun was shining, the Monster Energy was flowing and Alasdair had a brilliant race. In fact the weekend marked our first podium of the year. Al pulled off a flying race run to finish forth, less than 2 seconds behind race winner – and fellow Morewood Bikes rider – Jonty Neethling. Here’s how it went down in Alasdair’s words.

“On the weekend we had the 2nd round of the S.A National Cup series. I was feeling very confident going into the race. On the Friday we had our practice session, where I looked for a lot of the quickest race lines for Sunday’s race. Practice was awesome. On Saturday we had a second practice session, and I hit all the lines I had looked for on the previous day. I was thrashing a lot of runs down the track, practicing and perfecting my lines. At the end of the day my fingers were so sore from riding so much. I was super excited for the race the next day.

I was very focused in the morning of race day; I did one practice run and then did a photo-shoot with teammate Conrad. I went up for my seeding run super excited to hit the track had a warm up on my Monster Energy single speed XC bike.

I took my seeding run very chilled as I decided to save my legs for my race run, came 7th in seeding. I then went up for my race run, was very nervous but I was focused, had a awesome warm up on my Monster Energy single speed XC bike. When I was in the start gate my heart was pounding and I hit the track flat out, peddling everywhere I could, hitting the corners and jumps as fast as possible, coming into the finish I was so tired I could hardly breathe but carried on pushing on over the finish line. I was placed 4th in South Africa. I was over the moon and really happy.

I would like to give a big shout out to all my sponsors, you guys are amazing.”

I just want to add my own little bit at the end. So far this year has been very up and down for me. Injuries and just life have kept me from the races, but I am still so aware of how blessed I am. I have a great team mate and we have such great support for our program. You guys will probably never get how much you support means to Alasdair and myself. We really would not be able to do this without you.

A huge shout out to Our new sponsors: Monster Energy as well as all of you, who have supported us from the beginning. Dakine, Onza, Von Zipper, Loaded, Nixon, Morewood Bikes, Brake Authority, Fox Racing Shox, CSixx, Cycles Africa, Titanium Designs, Rush Sports, DDP Tech and Pillar Spokes. You guys all rock.
