We had a KZN provincial at Cascades Bike Park, Pietermaritzburg on the 7th of June. The track was “Super Awesome”. It ran along some an old National course from years back, as well as incorporating some of the more technical bits of the World Champs cross country course. The idea was to not use the World Champs DH course, as this track is becoming a little to familiar, as well as setting out a track that some of the newer people to DH could also enjoy. It was by no means easy, but you could go at your own pace and have fun.
We had to say good bye to one of our sponsors in the weeks leading up to the race and thanks to Titanium Design, where able to have new kit sorted, with the up dated sponsor list, in time for the race. Sadly NR Cycles closed it’s doors and the stock moved to a new owner. Velo Life has taken over the role of selling BMC, Bergamont and one of the brands we ambassador – Loaded Precision Components, in the Hillcrest area. We will no longer be supported by a bike shop for 2012. But I’m sure we’ll survive.
Alasdair was stoked on his new jersey. Feeling amp’d he got out on the hill and smashed as much practice runs as he could. He said he was just loving the high speeds and the support the riders had at the track. Getting sideways in the air for the crowd.
“We had two race runs and on the first one I had so much fun. The top of the track was so rough roots and loose sand it was amazing. After a bit of a peddle we went into a fast shoot with berms everywhere and looser corners. Then into a huge rock garden, in which you hang on your bars for dear life. Coming into the finish was over a nice size road gap into fast shoot then the finish.”
After the first run Alasdair was lying second, wanting to push hard to better his time in the second run.
“On my second race run, near the finish there was a huge crowd, so had to show off a bit with a whip on the road gap and hang loose into the finish. I ended up coming 2nd in elite class and 2nd overall, It was a super race. Thanks to everyone that made it a awesome event.”
As always, thank you to all our sponsors. Without you, this year’s racing would not be possible. Our preperations for World Champs later this year are on track and we hope to make you all proud. Next stop Mankele National Cup in Nelspruit. Hope you are all following us on FaceBook.
